Choma has four sons and a daughter. Two older sons work in a remote coffee plantation and try to pay off debt.A son dies of cholera. Another son marries a Christian girl and converts to Christianity. The daughter of a farmer, Maniwale, falls into the trap of working in a garden.She is raped by a plantation owner and waives off Choman’s debt. She returns home and tells Choman this thing. Choma’s youngest son drowns in the river and dies. Because he is an untouchable species, he drowns at the time of drowning, leaving no one to save him.Choma sees his daughter Manvelana engaged in a ritual. He angrily punches her and kicks her out of the house. He saves his shredded farm in order to face his fate. Burning oxen. At the end of the movie, Choma sits in the house and knocks on the door and dies.

ಚೋಮನಿಗೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಗಂಡು ಹಾಗೂ ಒಂದು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳು. ಇಬ್ಬರು ಹಿರಿಯ ಗಂಡುಮಕ್ಕಳು ದೂರದ ಕಾಫಿ ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಲವನ್ನು ತೀರಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಮಗ ಕಾಲರಾ ರೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬಲಿಯಾಗಿ ಸಾವಿಗೀಡಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬ ಮಗ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಹುಡುಗಿಯನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಮತಾಂತರವಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮಗಳು ’ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ’ ಒಂದು ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ತೋಟದ ಮಾಲೀಕ ರೈಟರ್ ಮನ್ವೇಲನ ಬಲೆಗೆ ಬೀಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ.ಅವಳನ್ನು ತೋಟಕ ಮಾಲೀಕ ಅತ್ಯಾಚಾರ ಮಾಡಿ ಚೋಮನ ಸಾಲವನ್ನು ಮನ್ನಾ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವಳು ಮನೆಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಈ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಚೋಮನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಚೋಮನ ಕಿರಿಯ ಮಗ ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿ ಸಾಯುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವನು ಅಸ್ಪೃಶ್ಯ ಜಾತಿಯ ಕಾರಣ ಆತ ಮುಳುಗುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರೂ ಸಹ ಅವನನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಲು ಹೋಗದೇ ಮುಳುಗಿಹೋಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.ಚೋಮ ತನ್ನ ಮಗಳು ಮನ್ವೆಲಾನ ಜೊತೆ ರತಿಯಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಕೋಪದಿಂದ ಅವಳನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದು ಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಹಾಕುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತನ್ನ ವಿಧಿಯನ್ನು ಮೆಟ್ಟಿನಿಂತು ಎದುರಿಸುವ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಅವನು ತಾನೇ ತನ್ನ ಚೂರು ಜಮೀನನ್ನು ಉಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಎತ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಡಿಗಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಸಿನೆಮಾ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚೋಮ ಮನೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಕೂತು ಬಾಗಿಲುಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡು ದುಡಿಯನ್ನು ಬಡಿಯುತ್ತಾ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.
